NarrativeDx Awarded Patent for Patient Feedback Analysis
First patent using artificial intelligence to automatically detect sentiment, categories, themes, and provide actionable insights from patient feedback.
AUSTIN, TX — NarrativeDx announced today that the U.S. Patent Office has awarded to it a patent that covers the automated analysis of patient feedback, a cornerstone of consumerism strategies for many health systems.
U.S Patent Number 10,114,814 covers NarrativeDx’s innovative technology that uses natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) to understand patient feedback from a variety of sources and identify specific opportunities that improve patient satisfaction scores, boost referrals and increase employee engagement.
“This patent recognizes our innovative approach to using artificial intelligence to hear the voice of the patient. We incorporate all available feedback sources, such as grievance letters, rounding, satisfaction surveys, social media and online physician reviews into a single platform that separates the signal from the noise. We help our clients turn silos of patient feedback into the right insights that move the needle, in specifically targeted ways for them,” said Kyle Robertson, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, NarrativeDx.
This patent is the first in a portfolio of pending applications that cover key aspects of NarrativeDx’s innovative technology. NarrativeDx uses this technology to recognize over 5,400 root causes of patient satisfaction and provide targeted improve actions that facilitate patient experience and workforce development initiatives. The technology also incorporates a proprietary understanding of patient experience and language. “You can’t capture the nuance of a patient’s experience with sentiment or categories - you need to identify the root cause and what to do about it. That’s why we built the largest, most comprehensive understanding of verbatim patient feedback in existence. This allows us to be incredibly detailed and accurate where other solutions fail,” Robertson added.
According to a 2016 study by Accenture, excellent patient experience increases hospital revenue by 50%. NarrativeDx achieves these outcomes by partnering with healthcare organizations, patient experience and informatics leaders, and consultancies to identify key issues across departments and providers based on patient comments. These actionable insights inform human-centered solutions that improve care experiences, increase revenue, and boost referrals for a thriving healthcare system.
“NarrativeDx has built a one-of-a-kind analytics engine for narrative patient experience data,” said Senem Guney, PhD, Founder and Chief Experience Officer, NarrativeDx. “Our company was founded on the simple principle that patient voices matter, and by uncovering important insights from patients’ own words about their experiences, we can make meaningful improvements in the delivery of patient-centered care that brings value to the patient-consumer.”
Founded in 2014 by AI engineer and Intellectual Property lawyer, Kyle Robertson, JD, and Senem Guney, PhD, CPXP NarrativeDx has seen steady growth in patient experience and the company continues to invest heavily in product innovation and improving the patient experience.
